ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint people and places that remind me of special times in my life. While these moments are transitory, paintings lets mw create a lasting memento of an otherwise passing view. I look for the universal appeal in everyday moments. To do this, I draw inspiration from old family photos, preserving mid-century images in a modern context. I am always looking for the stories of a place and have been lucky enough to experience many different stories. Southern California to New York City, Minnesota to Texas—each place introduced me to new perspectives and diverse communities of artists that drove my work in new, bolder directions. Now, as I am back in the Twin Cities, I feel so privileged to bring all these learnings to my landscape of origin. —Francene Christianson
